Paper sleeve wrapping for sustainable transport packaging
Hugo Beck will present a compact paper-based sleeve wrapping system at interpack 2026, designed to reduce shrink film and secondary cardboard use.

Transport and secondary packaging operations are under pressure to reduce plastic use while maintaining load stability and process efficiency. Paper-based wrapping technologies are emerging as one approach to this transition. In this context, Hugo Beck introduced the paper S sleeve wrapping machine for paper-based transport packaging applications.
Paper wrapping as an alternative to shrink film
The paper S sleeve wrapper is designed for transport packaging applications in sectors such as FMCG production and retail-ready packaging, where bundled products must remain stable throughout logistics processes.
The system applies a tight kraft paper sleeve, with or without trays, using overlap wrapping and hot-melt adhesive bonding to ensure bundle stability during transport and handling. This approach enables manufacturers to replace plastic shrink film or reduce secondary cardboard while maintaining packaging integrity across the supply chain.
The machine is designed for inline integration into existing production lines or as a standalone installation. Its compact footprint addresses production environments where available floor space is limited.
Material efficiency and process energy considerations
The system also targets reductions in packaging material consumption and process energy requirements. Compared with heat-shrink packaging processes, the paper-based sleeve wrapping approach eliminates the need for heat tunnels, reducing associated energy demand.
Optional integration of digital printing units, labelling systems and automation modules allows adaptation of the machine to different production requirements and traceability needs within digital supply chain environments.
Paper material matched to machine processing
The development of the paper S solution included cooperation with Mondi to align machine processing parameters with paper material properties. At interpack 2026, the machine will operate using Mondi’s Ad/Vantage StretchWrap paper (70 gsm).
The uncoated kraft paper is characterised by puncture resistance and stretch behaviour that supports tensile energy absorption during transport. The material is designed to be recyclable in standard paper waste streams and is also described as industrially compostable.
Demonstration planned at interpack 2026
Hugo Beck plans to present the paper S sleeve wrapper at interpack 2026, taking place in Düsseldorf, Germany, from May 7 to 13 (Hall 11, Stand A74). The demonstration will include live operation of the machine and presentation of the company’s paper and film packaging systems portfolio.
The introduction of the paper S expands Hugo Beck’s paper packaging technology portfolio, following earlier paper X series developments and e-commerce packaging solutions, with a focus on transport packaging applications requiring reduced plastic use while maintaining packaging performance.
