WITT Gas Introduces OXYPAD 2-in-1 MAP Gas Analyzer

WITT Gas has introduced the OXYPAD, a compact 2-in-1 gas analyzer designed for quality control in modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) processes within the food packaging industry. The device combines a stationary tabletop analyzer and a portable mobile unit, addressing the need for flexible, reliable gas measurement across production lines, laboratories, and on-site inspections.

Supporting Quality Control in MAP Food Packaging
In MAP applications, precise control of oxygen and carbon dioxide concentrations is essential to maintain product shelf life, safety, and consistency. Quality control systems must therefore deliver accurate measurements, fast sampling, and ease of use, even when testing small packages with limited internal gas volume.

The OXYPAD is designed to measure O₂ and CO₂ concentrations in sealed packages using needle-based sampling. Its low gas sample requirement enables analysis of small or low-volume packages without compromising measurement reliability.

Measurement Technology and Handling Design
The analyzer integrates advanced gas sensor technology to determine oxygen and carbon dioxide levels rapidly after puncturing the package. A controlled sample flow mechanism monitors the measurement process and provides warnings if the needle becomes blocked, helping to prevent invalid results. The system automatically compensates for minor contamination of the needle or filter to maintain measurement stability.

Mechanical design features focus on safe and repeatable handling. The aluminum needle pen is ergonomically shaped, and a protective needle casing keeps the sampling needle clean when not in use. A twisting mechanism shields the needle during transport and handling, reducing the risk of damage or injury.

Stationary and Mobile Operation
Weighing less than 600 grams and powered by a rechargeable battery, the OXYPAD is designed for mobile use on production floors or in storage areas. Tubing and the needle assembly are stored behind a front flap, reducing snagging hazards during transport. For stationary use, the device functions as a tabletop analyzer without requiring additional accessories.

A service access flap allows maintenance tasks to be performed quickly, contributing to low downtime and reduced operating costs.

User Interface, Data Handling, and Alarms
The analyzer is operated via a 7-inch color touchscreen with a multilingual user interface. Drop-down menus allow users to select products or packaging lines quickly, while configurable limit values can be defined for oxygen and carbon dioxide concentrations. The system generates alarms if measured values exceed predefined thresholds.

Measurement results are displayed graphically, including package pressure where applicable. The device stores up to 5,000 measurements internally, with data export available via USB for documentation and traceability.

Calibration, Maintenance, and Lifecycle Considerations

The OXYPAD is designed for user-performed calibration, eliminating the need for factory servicing in routine operation. Components such as the needle, hose, and filter can be replaced without tools. Depending on operating conditions, the oxygen sensor has a service life of up to two years in ambient air.

Both the sensor and the rechargeable battery are user-replaceable, supporting predictable maintenance cycles and minimizing total cost of ownership.

Application Scope
The OXYPAD is intended for food manufacturers and packaging operations that require consistent verification of gas composition in MAP products. Its combination of portability, data handling, and low maintenance supports use in production quality checks, line audits, and laboratory verification tasks.

With its dual-use design and focus on usability, the OXYPAD addresses the practical demands of modern food packaging quality control environments.
