Danfoss implements new architectures for heat pumps, industrial refrigeration, and data center cooling. The technical solutions support the transition towards low-GWP refrigerants and cold chain efficiency.
Addressing the Industrial Challenge
The HVACR industry and the cold chain face stringent refrigerant regulations and growing demands for decarbonization. Data center infrastructures require advanced cooling capacities due to the rapid expansion of artificial intelligence, while industrial processes need alternatives to fossil fuel-powered heating systems to provide high-temperature heat.
Technical Architecture and Responsibilities
Danfoss provides integrated systems that include the new VPN variable-speed and PSN R290 fixed-speed scroll compressors with vapor injection technology, optimized for propane systems up to 700 kW. For industrial heat pumps, the company integrates the KH3 screw compressor with the iC7-HVACR ULH frequency converter. In data center liquid cooling, the technical architecture is based on the oil-free ecosystem featuring the Turbocor TGS490 compressor and the Virtus differential pressure controller. Kristian Strand, President of Danfoss Climate Solutions, specified that proven technologies and new system approaches work together to accelerate the decarbonization of commercial buildings and industrial processes.
Deployment and Operational Integration
The technologies are integrated directly into OEM machines to reduce development times and optimize operational performance. For industrial refrigeration, NeoCharge low-charge ammonia solutions and the IPS 8 Intelligent Purger System are deployed to optimize plant performance and reduce energy consumption. The hardware infrastructures and control systems will be exhibited at the Chillventa 2026 trade fair, scheduled from October 13 to 15 in Nuremberg, Germany.
Applications and Use Cases
The solutions are applied in the development of commercial and industrial heat pumps to provide process heat with temperatures up to 120 degrees Celsius. In the food retail and food service sectors, AK-EC Convenience Edge controllers, AK-PC35 central controllers, and Optyma iCO2 condensing units manage food safety and the performance of refrigerated display cabinets and cold rooms.
Results and Operational Impact
The implementation of these hardware architectures and cloud monitoring tools allows industrial operators to lower emissions and manage complex thermal loads. The integration of the DST G290 gas leak sensor, the DST P070 pressure transmitter, and the EKE 100 superheat controller kit ensures stable operation, generating measurable economic savings and increasing the reliability of the entire HVACR infrastructure.
